Epistem offers a proprietary ex vivo culture technique that enables scientists to monitor the effects of novel therapeutic agents on gene and protein expression in hair. Our highly reproducible technique provides valuable preclinical proof of concept data that can be used to identify potential biomarkers and panels for predicting the effectiveness of therapeutic agents in clinical settings.

To use our technique, hair is plucked and transferred to a maintenance medium where it is exposed to the novel therapeutic agent. Effects are then monitored using Epistem’s gene expression analysis technology or by IHC. By studying gene signatures in response to therapeutic agents at the preclinical stage, we can confirm our findings in preclinical in vivo or clinical samples.

At Epistem, we take pride in our GCLP-compliant histology and pharmacogenomics labs, where we identify and validate candidate biomarkers and panels. GCLP stands for Good Clinical Laboratory Practice, which is a set of guidelines for the quality management of clinical laboratories involved in the analysis of samples from clinical trials.
