Epistem offers extensive expertise in epithelial biology

We have a specialised team dedicated to setting up skin models and evaluating techniques to address the complex aspects of wound healing, including cell migration, proliferation, wound contraction, and angiogenesis.

In Vitro & In Vivo Wound Healing Models

All our models are supported by our GCLP-compliant histology / IHC and pharmacogenomics analysis as well as FACS and protein expression services for in depth analysis of model endpoints.

In Vitro

Epistem’s in vitro wound healing assays generate rapid mechanistic data to determine the effect of novel therapeutic agents on the processes implicated in wound healing, including cell proliferation and migration, wound contraction and angiogenesis.

Assays are performed using:

  • Cell lines
  • Primary human or murine keratinocytes
  • Primary human or murine fibroblasts

Primary cells can be provided from a variety of donor types and ages, or other species, on request.

In vivo

Epistem provides in vivo wound healing models to evaluate the effectiveness of new therapeutic agents and assess scarring. They offer acute excisional and incisional models, a human skin xenograft model, and an inflamed wound healing model using LPS from Klebsiella pneumoniae. Additionally, Epistem provides in vivo chronic wound healing models, including cutaneous diabetic models and an ovariectomy model for age-associated wound healing.
