Psoriasis

Advancing the understanding of psoriasis to accelerate the development of novel therapeutic agents

Epistem offers clinically relevant in vitro and in vivo psoriasis models as a service to help researchers better understand the disease and test the efficacy of new therapeutic agents.

In Vitro and In Vivo Services

Epistem offers research solutions to help combat this common yet debilitating condition.

In vivo

Psoriasis is induced after topical application of 5% imiquimod cream.  Disease is assessed over a 5-8 day period using a Psoriasis Activity Severity Index (PASI) scoring system encompassing redness, swelling and thickness of the skin.  The effect of novel therapeutic agents can be assessed in-life and using the ex vivo analyses detailed below.

Readouts

  • FACS analysis of inflammatory mediators and key cytokines
  • Histology and immunohistochemistry
  • Multiplex analysis of key cytokines and factors
  • Gene Expression

In vitro

This psoriasis model involves stimulating human primary keratinocytes with a cocktail of pro-inflammatory cytokines to induce a gene expression profile that mimics that of psoriasis patients. Researchers can then assess the effects of novel therapeutic agents on gene and protein expression in response to the induced inflammation.
